We bring broad experience in health insurance and reinsurance markets, as well as healthcare and employee benefits. Nearly every member of our staff comes from major insurance or reinsurance companies, working in areas focused on healthcare and employee benefits, HMO and provider excess loss, financial reinsurance, product development and medical management.

Chris Alexander, Regional Vice President, Employer Stop Loss
Chris's responsibilities include sales, field underwriting, servicing products and related areas for employer stop loss, HMO excess and insured programs offered through HMOs and other managed care organizations. Chris has over 25 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance with a strong background in underwriting. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Aurora University. |

Gail Amstutz, CPA, Assistant Controller
Gail joined Summit Re in 2001. She has primary responsibility for premium administration and other accounting functions. Gail also assists with both internal and external (client) audits as required.She began her professional insurance career with GE Medical Protective working with both accounting and underwriting. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Indiana University and a Master of Business Administration from Taylor University. |
Jon Anderson, Vice President, Employer Stop Loss
Jon's primary responsibility is the strategic planning and directing of the Employer Stop Loss unit. He began his career at Lincoln Re in 1989, where he managed the employer stop-loss business written through HMOs. Jon has over 15 years of experience in underwriting and managed care. He has a bachelor of science in economics from Ripon College. |

Barbara Brown, Marketing Assistant
Barb has over 25 years of administrative experience, including reinsurance and human resources. Barb worked at Lincoln Financial Group for seven years, in Financial Reinsurance at Lincoln Re, and Human Resources at Lincoln Annuities. At Summit Re she has a variety of responsibilites.. Barb has an MBA in Management and Human Resources from Indiana Tech, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Kent State University, where she won several critical writing awards. She is a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) and has the Associate of Customer Service (ACS) FLMI designation (Fellow of the Life Management Institute). |
John Broyles, Regional Vice President
John has over 15 years experience in healthcare risk management, specifically HMO reinsurance. He will manage sales and services to regional HMO reinsurance clients. John was co-founder and executive vice president of sales for Risk Based Solutions, a major Managing General Underwriter. Before that, he was national sales director of Alden Risk Management Services where he helped that organization enter the reinsurance market for healthcare insurance companies. John is based in Orange Park, FL. |

Amy Carlson, Regional Vice President, Employer Stop Loss
Amy’s responsibilities include sales, field underwriting, and servicing stop loss business written through TPAs, brokers and HMOs. Amy has over 20 years of experience in the stop loss industry, with experience working for a TPA, broker and stop loss carrier. Most recently she worked as a senior regional group manager for Symetra Financial. Amy earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Colorado at Boulder. |
Anne Cavanaugh, Assistant Vice President and Director, Medical Excess Products & Services
Anne works closely with all areas of the company to ensure that medical excess products and services are designed and administered to achieve strategic objectives. She has over 20 years of experience in the managed care industry. She served as assistant vice president and director of managed care products and services for Lincoln Re and was Lincoln's Employee Benefits Division's director of national product development. Anne holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cincinnati. |

Greg Demars, FSA, MAAA, Vice President, Actuarial and Underwriting
Greg, is responsible for pricing and underwriting the reinsurance lines of business. Greg is a former HCC/Allianz senior executive with 16 years of experience in healthcare actuarial underwriting and operations. His previous position at HCC Life was Executive Vice President where he was responsible for the Healthcare Risk Management and LifeTrac divisions. Greg is based in our Minneapolis office. |
Charleen Dugas, Senior Stop Loss Underwriter
As Senior Stop Loss Underwriter for Summit-Re, Charleen is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business while providing expertise and timely solutions to our business partners. Charleen’s experience in the employer stop loss marketplace has been developed by underwriting for direct carriers & MGU’S over the past 14 years. Charleen is based in Indianapolis, IN. |

Brian Fehlhaber, Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Brian has over 25 years experience in the group health insurance business, specializing in HMOs, provider reinsurance and product development efforts within HMOs. Brian formerly managed Lincoln Re's HMO/provider products and group carrier reinsurance sales unit. He holds a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute. |
Diane Foughty, Contract Specialist
Diane has primary responsibility for the preparation of HMO excess and other managed care agreements and amendments. Employed by Summit Reinsurance Services in October 2002, she has over 20 years of experience in preparing agreements for several divisions of Lincoln Re in the insurance/reinsurance/managed care business. |

Karen Gick, Administrative and Marketing Assistant
Karen joined Summit Re in April 2000 with over 20 years of experience, coming to us from Lincoln Re where she was senior executive administrative assistant for the pricing, actuarial and disability income divisions of Lincoln Re. Her experience also includes serving as office manager for GE Lighting sales, and as a Spanish translator and treasurer with the Fort Wayne Community Schools. Karen received an academic award of excellence in foreign language studies from Indiana University in 1996. |
MaryBeth Gregory, Assistant Vice President.
MaryBeth is responsible for underwriting and servicing employer stop loss business to targeted profitability and service objectives. In addition to this, MaryBeth assists in setting strategic underwriting direction and monitors emerging trends in Summit Re’s book of business and the employer stop loss market. MaryBeth has over 25 years of carrier and MGU underwriting experience in the employer stop loss marketplace. |

Faith Johnston, MHP, ARe, Regional Vice President
Faith manages medical excess sales and service to selected HMOs, Blue Cross & Blue Shield plans and insurance carriers. Faith joined Summit Re with over 20 years of experience in the health and life reinsurance industry. Prior to joining Summit Re, Faith worked as a reinsurance sales representative for Lincoln Re, Allianz Re and Allianz Healthcare Risk Management. Her past experience also includes working for a reinsurance broker and a medical cost containment company. Faith is based in our Denver, CO office. |
Shane Kemerly, Regional Vice President, Employer Stop Loss
Shane’s primary responsibility is the sales and service of stop loss business written through TPA’s and brokers. He has 15 years of experience in the stop loss industry, both in underwriting, and in sales. Shane has spent the past 10 years in a sales and marketing role, most recently serving as the Vice President of Marketing for BEST Re. Prior to entering the stop loss industry, Shane spent 4 years in the US Air Force and is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Shane will be located in our Lapel, IN satellite office. |

Jeana Kidd, RN, Managed Care Coordinator, Self-Funded Markets
Jeana serves as a primary resource to third party administrators, brokers and employers groups. She provides consultative case management services to clients’ medical management staff, works to ensure that managed care services meets the needs of the clients and assists Summit Re’s underwriters in the evaluation and assessment of potential catastrophic claims. Jeana has many years experience in the medical and insurance industries. Prior to joining Summit Re, she was a medical risk management consultant for Munich Re Stop Loss. |
Kris Lahey, Director, Claims Management
Kris is responsible for the adjudication of reinsurance claims and is assisting on a project to develop additional claim payment system resources for the HMO excess product. Kris came to us from Aetna U.S. Healthcare with 10 years of experience working with both claims and customer service in the first dollar health care business. Prior to joining us she was responsible for both claim and customer service teams. Kris has a bachelor's degree in communications from Purdue University. |

Karen Maxwell, Financial Analyst
Karen is primarily responsible for processing premium for both Employer Stop Loss and HMO Products. She is also the main back up for data support, as well as, claim information for both product lines. Prior to coming to Summit Re, Karen was employed by Wells Fargo Bank for 29 years where her focus was cash balancing and customer service. |
Ernest Norwood, Underwriting Consultant
Ernest has worked in finance and underwriting for 9 years and holds a Bachelors degree from Keene State College. He is responsible for underwriting and servicing employer stop loss business to targeted profitability and service objectives. Prior to joining Summit Re to focus on employer stop loss business, Ernest underwrote fully-insured programs for PacifiCare. |

Penny Pequignot, Office Manager
Penny manages the Summit Re agency and individual licensing efforts and holds her A&H and P&C licenses in Indiana and earned her HIA designation. She also serves as the sold case administrator for our employer stop loss unit. Penny was with Lincoln Financial Group for 11 years, of which 8 were with Lincoln Re's HMO unit, where she was involved in several areas of client service. |
Peggy Richardson, Claims Manager
Peggy is responsible for reinsurance claims adjudication and for communicating with clients regarding claim submissions and payments. Peggy has been with Summit Re since October 2000. Previously she managed the cost containment/medical claims management area at Aetna U.S. Healthcare. Peggy has over 15 years of experience in the managed care industry. |

Brian Shively, F.S.A., M.A.A.A., Vice President Actuarial, Underwriting & Claims
Brian's responsibilities include setting the overall direction of pricing and underwriting for Summit Re. Brian has been involved with pricing and underwriting managed care products since 1988 and specifically with the reinsurance of various types of managed care entities since 1990. He has a bachelor of arts in mathematics from Wabash College and has been a fellow of the Society of Actuaries since September 1990. |
Larry Stickell, Regional Vice President
Larry has over 25 years of reinsurance and managed care experience. In his role as head of marketing, international group life and health, and group operations for Lincoln Re, he helped establish the company's HMO reinsurance sales and underwriting operation in the early 1990s and introduced a specialty stop-loss product designed for self-funded plans managed by HMOs. Larry uses his experience to assess a health plan's risk exposure and to put together a program to manage those risks. He has a bachelor of arts in history from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in history from Indiana University. |

Debbie Stubbs, RN, MS, CCM, Managed Care Specialist
Debbie is responsible for providing consultative case management services to clients, assisting the underwriters in the assessment of potential catastrophic claims, and assisting with the vendor selection process. She has over 10 years of managed care experience, working directly for a number of HMOs focusing on both utilization review and case management. |
Laura Studebaker, Director, Sales & Marketing
Laura has primary responsibility for the implementation of new accounts as well as to assist our sales force in prospecting efforts. She has been with Summit Re since January 2000 and came to us from Lincoln Re, where she was manager of client services. Prior to joining Lincoln, she managed the claims and customer service department for a local TPA and previously worked for Aetna in the managed care and provider contracting departments. Laura has over 20 years of experience in insurance and reinsurance. |

Kira Sturgis, Claims Manager
Kira is responsible for reinsurance claim adjudication and communicating directly with the client base regarding submissions. Kira has over 10 years combined insurance experience at Lincoln and Aetna, over 6 years direct experience with managed care. Kira holds a Bachelor's of Science degree with Indiana University. |
Scott Terhaar, Senior Underwriter
Scott will be assisting in the pricing and underwriting of the HMO, provider, and carrier lines of business. Previously Scott worked at HCC/Allianz where his responsibilities included project work related to reporting, system development, product management and underwriting. Scott has a degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota and will be working out of our Minneapolis office. |

Mark Troutman, F.S.A., M.A.A.A., C.E.B.S., President
Mark spent 20 years at Lincoln, as second vice president in charge of the reinsurance division's HMO, provider and carrier markets. Mark also headed the personal accident area of Lincoln Re, spent 6 years in capital management/financial reinsurance as a dealmaker, and 10 years in various employee benefits division roles involving life, medical, dental, disability, flexible benefits, employer stop loss and HMO/PPO products. He has been a fellow of the Society of Actuaries since 1981. Mark has a bachelor of science in mathematics from the University of Michigan. |
Ann Whitman, Data Support Technician
Ann is responsible for compiling census information for the employer stop loss unit and for preparing and inputting data for the claims unit. Ann has over 15 years experience in the clerical field and has an Associate of Business in word processing from Baker College (Flint, MI). |

Steve Wolfer, Assistant Vice President/CFO/COO Employer Stop Loss
Steve joined Summit Re in June 2000 and handles the company finances, premium administration, experience refund calculations and continuation of benefits reviews. He recently added employer stop loss operations to his list of responsibilities. Steve spent 12 years as a senior manager with Ernst & Young, specializing in the audits of healthcare and nonprofit organizations. At Lincoln Re, he performed client audits and TPA appointment reviews, and served as product manager for out-of-area indemnity products. A Fellow of the Life Management Institute and a certified public accountant, he has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati. |
